Jake and Megan met in their sophomore year of college in 2017 in Sagunto, Spain, as students of the Adventist Colleges Abroad program. Depending on who you ask, they were either friends (Megan) or barely acquaintances (Jake) during their year abroad. Afterwards, they returned to their respective colleges (Megan to Andrews University, and Jake to Walla Walla University), never to see each other again. Or so they thought. Although it is not as romantic as love at first sight in a European country, Jake and Megan’s surface-level friendship managed to stay alive through social media. Fast-forward four years later to 2021, their casual updates and comments on social media randomly evolved into actual conversation. Living on opposite sides of the country, Megan was simply grateful for an unexpectedly close, online friend (aka she was oblivious Jake was trying to flirt with her). With a little help from Megan’s friends (who were a lot less oblivious than she was), Jake was able to successfully shoot his shot from three time zones away. So began the long-distance relationship! They took turns flying back and forth between California and Maryland every month amidst hours-long FaceTime calls. On June 7, 2024, the day of their third anniversary, Jake and Megan went to “take Jake’s graduation photos” in a quiet park in Lake Arrowhead. But instead, Jake got down on one knee and asked Megan to marry him. LET’S GET MARRIIEEEEDDD WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
