Your presence is requested at the union of the fabulous Dr. Jeffrey Kosbie and the fierce Dr. Eduardo Europa on July 13, 2019, at Oakland Museum of California.
Jeff and Eddie met while planning Queertopia! A graduate student academic conference in 2011. Jeff was phasing out of running this, after helping establish it and seeing it through its first couple years. Eddie was in the new leadership taking over. Eddie and Jeff became friends, but it stayed that way until... ...2015. Jeff had just finished his graduate studies at Northwestern and was getting ready to move to the Bay Area. At Jeff's going away dinner, Eddie and Jeff both told their friend, Keith, that they were interested in the other, but Keith denies any knowledge of this. Fortunately Keith's failures as a wing man did not stand in Eddie and Jeff's way. They went on a handful of dates thinking that nothing was going to happen anyway since Jeff was about to move. Three weeks later, Jeff and Eddie had seen each other every single day. With Jeff's flight the next day, they admitted to each other they were both falling in love. Fortunately Eddie was already planning to be in the Bay Area the next week for a friend's wedding. During that trip, Jeff and Eddie officially committed to trying long-distance. Somehow, they have managed to talk to each other every single day since their first date, even when Jeff is in the middle of an ultramarathon that lasts 31 hours, or Eddie is halfway across the world for a research conference.
Like almost all couples today, we already knew we were going to get engaged before it happened. And if there was going to be a proposal, we both wanted to be proposed to and to propose. So we did away with the traditional proposal. Instead, we planned an engagement weekend getaway in Sonoma. We pampered ourselves with massages, enjoyed fantastic meals together, strolled around Healdsburg, and reflected on our relationship: the memories we've built together, the challenges we've faced, why we want to get married, what we think about as "family," what we saw for the future, and anything else that came to mind. The weekend truly gave us the time and space we needed to celebrate the engagement in our own special way. We capped the weekend off with a wine tasting at Francis Ford Coppola Winery, where we officially announced ourselves engaged!
