Things To Do

Paseo Andares

Paseo Andares, Zapopan, Jal. 45116, Mexico

This is the plaza/street right outside our hotel. There are lots of great shops and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. There is even a Starbucks :).

Walkable Restaurants

La Docena - oyster bar, popular and tasty from what I remember El Almacen - Argentinian/Italian, we like this place, very large menu with lots of options Corazon de Alcachofa - italian, I have never been but their menu looks versatile, meats/pasta/seafood Lolo - tacos, ceviche, more typical Guadalajaran food Cassola - Hyatt restaurant, it will be more pricey than restaurants outside but you can expect more traditional Mexican fare as well as more typical "American" foods on the menu

Foods to Try

Torras Ahogadas: literally translated as “drowned sandwiches”, they are usually made with meat and birote- a specific type of sourdough bread made in Guadalajara. They then soaked in a mild red sauce and they are delicious! Esquites: Mexico is well known for its corn products. This a corn with cream, Cotija cheese, and a little chili powder. Chilaquiles: we will likely serve these at the wedding as a late night snack but they are one of our favorite Mexican comfort foods. Fried tortilla pieces topped with red onion, Cotija cheese, cream and red or green (not spicy usually) salsa.

Tequila

Tequila, Jal., Mexico

Take a tour of one of the oldest distilleries in the Americas and try some Jose Cuervo right from the source. We have been several times and have loved it each time! The town of Tequila is about an hour drive from Guadalajara and is truly one of the most charming towns there is. It is also a World Heritage Site. Salud!

Avenida Chapultepec Sur

Avenida Chapultepec Sur, Guadalajara, Jal., Mexico

A lovely street with shops, restaurants, bars and great night life. Javi and I lived here during our time in Guadalajara. There is also a very cool market (or "tianguis" as they say in Guadalajara) some nights during the week.

Tlaquepaque

Tlaquepaque, Jal., Mexico

Pronounced Tla-keh-pa-keh this is THE place to go if you're looking from some authentic Mexican arts, crafts, and culture. About 30-40 mins outside of Guadalajara, it's worth the day trip if you are feeling up for it!

Farmer's Market Plaza Andares

There is a cute little farmer's market to the right as you walk out of the hotel every Saturday morning! They sell mainly food items if you want to check it out!

Cultural Institute Cabañas

Paseo Hospicio, Guadalajara, Jal. 44360, Mexico
, +52 33 3668 1645

I have never been personally but this has been recommended by several Guadalajara natives! Per Lonely Planet travel guide, tours are free and offered in many languages. It is known for it's beautiful architecture and art inside. We recommend some extra caution with purse/bags/valuables when touring the city. Do not leave anything unattended or open.

Templo Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento

935 Calle Manuel López Cotilla, Guadalajara, Jal. 44160, Mexico
, +52 33 3825 3410

Beautiful gothic church in downtown Guadalajara. It is located in a large plaza with lots of things to do around it.

Santo Coyote

2379 Calle Miguel Lerdo de Tejada, Guadalajara, Jal. 44150, Mexico

A cool restaurant I have heard amazing thing about! I have been told they have Mariachi and traditional Mexican dances many nights. Also, known for great service and serving international guests.
