He was living in Miami. She was living in New York. One weekend, Kayla went to Miami on a work trip and was introduced to Jasper by a mutual acquaintance. They immediately clicked — especially when they learned Jasper grew up a few blocks from Kayla's Upper West Side apartment and that his parents worked in same Manhattan office building Kayla was working in. It was spooky that he knew every restaurant and store she loved in New York — down to her neighborhood bodega. They found out they had a mutual love of travel, speaking foreign languages, and perhaps most bonding of all — the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Kayla felt like she'd known Jasper for years, and that night they talked until 4 am. After Kayla went back to New York, Jasper made plans to see her while visiting his family, and they continued to visit back and forth. After a year of long distance, Kayla realized she couldn't live without Jasper and moved to Miami! Since then, they've explored South Beach together, made it through a pandemic, moved to Boston, started new jobs, and most exciting of all — got engaged! They can't wait to see what adventures come next, with their trusty sidekick, Sadie, in tow!
Jasper popped the question on a weekend getaway to New Hampshire near where Kayla's family is originally from, which he told Kayla was "a trip to celebrate his birthday." Kayla said, "aw, that sounds so romantic" to which Jasper said, "... no, no, I mean mayyyybe, but that's not the reason we're going." Kayla thought that was a little funny but didn't think anything of it. It was February, so it looked like a winter wonderland, and they stayed at the cutest B&B. When they were getting dressed up to go to dinner, Jasper was so nervous that he was having trouble tying his tie. That's when she knew something was up! Jasper told her dinner was at 7, but it was really at 8. In front of the fireplace, Jasper got down on one knee with a ring, and asked Kayla to marry him. She said, "Yes, of course!" about eight octaves higher than her usual voice and became the happiest person in the world. Kayla hadn't noticed the camera set up in the corner to capture the proposal. Later on, Kayla found out her family and her best friend Carrah were in on the secret, and Carrah even helped Jasper pick out the ring.
