Thanks City of El Paso! We reserved a city owned venue and nine months out they failed to inform us it shut down. Luckily, we had plenty of time and Becky found and booked the Blue Door venue in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We also had to bump the wedding from the 5th to the 6th. Las Cruces is a short drive from El Paso and guests can book a hotel in either location. Blue Door is located near old Mesilla. Directions to the venue will be posted prior to the wedding. Becky is COMPLETELY over the whole situation and is in no way bitter about losing our venue up in the mountains. It is not a sore spot at all and everyone should bring it up as much as possible.
We will be sending some sickeningly cute Save the Dates that you can magnet to your refrigerator and forget about. Eventually (once Jason figures it out), we will set up RSVPs on this website. Please RSVP promptly and by the due date. Those submitting RSVPs late will be asked to bring a sandwich, a chair, and be placed in the corner of shame.
For those flying in: El Paso Airport is the only option. It’s not cheap to fly here from anywhere. Lo siento. For those driving from the East: Drive west until you hit the Texas state line. Drive another 12 hours. Make sure you stop at Buckees. If you hit New Mexico, you’ve gone too far. For those driving from the West: Drive to the middle of New Mexico, then turn right. Drive until you run out of United States territory and you’re there. If you enter Mexico, pick us up some street tacos and come back.
Still under negotiations. Jason has already been denied the tuxedo t-shirt he wanted to wear for the occasion, don’t let him tell you otherwise. A groomsman is currently working on a sweet mullet. Becky informed Jason that he will have a beard for the occasion. We respectfully request guests wear a collared shirt and khakis minimum. Wedding party will wear suits / dresses. Vaya con dios to anyone wearing white not named Becky.
Open, duh. There will be beer, liquor, margaritas, possibly vino, and some decent scotch hidden behind the bar if we like you. Please no one touch the Johnny Walker Black. That bottle belongs to Margaret. -Signature drink: A beer. -Signature cocktail: Cerveza con limon.
Through the process of finding a venue, Jason had to learn what the f*ck a plate charger was. We use that story to illustrate that we like things more on the simple side, so don’t expect anything fancy. We’re aiming for more of a back-yard party than some dry-ass chicken that cost us $37 a plate. Please let us know if any of your party are vegetarians so we can mock them relentlessly. -Main Dish: Tacos (Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Chicken) -With: Cilantro lime rice and a salad -Appetizers: Jalapeño poppers and a second choice TBD -Drinks (non-alcoholic variety): Tea, Lemonade, Watermelon Agua Fresca
There will be a cookie table! This is a Pittsburgh tradition and Jason’s mom and Aunt Debby will make cookies that will make you forget we served you tacos as a main dish. If you would like to volunteer to supply a batch of cookies for the cookie table, there is a rigorous application process which also requires testing by our cookie table tasting team (mostly Jason). (According to Becky, Jason has been kicked off the cookie table tasting team because she doesn’t want him getting fat.)
-We ask that you do not take any photos during the ceremony. We shelled out a nice chunk of change for a professional photographer, so we want him to be able to do his work without anyone getting in his way. If we can identify the arm attached to the iphone in our photos, we’ll just forward the photographers final bill to your house. We will make sure we give everyone an opportunity after the ceremony to snap a photo. -Anyone making a short joke will be “volunteered” for the cleanup crew. Yes, you can get through life without being able to reach the top shelf, thank you very much. -Children are welcome, but unattended children will be escorted to the cookie table and fed the cookies with the highest sugar content. Unattended adults that have had a few too many “sodas” will be leashed to their children.
If you find yourself arriving early for the wedding and in need of something to do, give us a call. We will likely have you working like you’re an indentured servant in a sweat shop. If you would rather actually see the city, we have some recommendations -Buy some boots. El Paso is home to many well-known boot manufacturers. You can even wear them to the wedding (Jason did not clear this with Becky yet, come looking like a caballero at your own peril). -See the Mission Trail. There are some very old Spanish Missions in the lower valley of El Paso. I’d find you information, but I’m not your Google, look it up. -There might still be Chihuahua’s games? They end in September. The Chihuahuas are a Triple A baseball team. -Hueco Tanks State Park. Native American rock art and hiking. Reservations required. -Old Mesilla. Billy the Kid once stayed a night there in government sponsored housing. -If anyone would like to make a donation to the Mescalero Tribe, there is a casino in Ruidoso, NM.
-Mexican food: One can never have too many tacos. We recommend L and J’s or Riviera. -Hoppy Monk is a hipster bar. Also the location for the second half of our first date. See the location where Jason and Becky first made fun of people on a first date (Yes it was our first date, and yes we ignored our own hypocrisy). -Crave has four locations throughout El Paso. -Whataburger. You’ll never look at golden arches the same again. -What would a trip to Texas be without BBQ? Try Rudy’s on the East or West side. -Mario’s Ribs are the best ribs in town. 915-433-8631. I have been informed there will be a murder if Mario tries to make delivery on our wedding day. Please do not place an order on 6 September 2020. -The Fountains is located in central with a bunch of good places to eat. One of those is Grimaldi’s who has some good pizza. Don’t eat at Chuy’s, there are better options. -Cattlemans. It’s a 45 minute drive, but you can also see a pit full of rattlesnakes and pet some goats.
-Deadbeach. Best brewery in town. -Ode is a brewery on the west side of El Paso that serves delicious food. -The Double Eagle in Old Mesilla has some of the best margarita’s we’ve ever had. -2ten has the best coffee in the city.
