Locarno
Piazza Grande - a lively, historic square surrounded by beautiful arcades, hosting vibrant markets and outdoor cafés Lake Maggiore - known for its crystal-clear waters, scenic islands, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains (lakeside picnic, visit cafes, rent a boat, take a boat tour, bring your SUP, etc.) Madonna del Sasso - A sanctuary perched on a scenic rocky spur with view of Lake Maggiore, the city of Locarno, and the delta of the River Maggia. Casinò Locarno Cable car to Cardada-Cimetta - panoramic views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alps
Ascona
Neighboring village known for is charm, fine dining, and sophisticated ambiance. Less than 5 minute drive from Locarno or 10 minutes by public transportation. We can personally recommend the restaurant "Hide and Seek".
Verzasca
Renting a car would be easist but this area is also accessible by public transportation. Valle Verzasca is a must-do, especially if it is warm enough to take a dip. The crystal clear water and beautifully eroded terrain make this a truly unique location. Make sure to bring a few snacks, some drinks, and wear sneakers! Parking lot: Paese 3, 6633 Verzasca (Lat/Long: 46.25952, 8.83763). Bus stop: Lavertezzo, Paese A few minutes before the valley, you will find the Verzasca Dam (James Bond bungee jumping site). This is a beautiful viewpoint where you can also bungee jump if you are daring!
Lugano
Chic lakeside city known as the "Monte Carlo of Switzerland". Also the city Alana has lived in for 1.5 years when she played for FC Lugano. Train to Lugano from Locarno is about 30 minutes. We recommend exploring the city, walking around the lake, renting a small motorboat (can drive it yourself, no license required. Can try to haggle on price), or taking a boat tour to neighboring villages. The city has lots of great restaurants and check out the lounge/club "seven" for nightlife.
The Castles of Bellinzona
A UNESCO World Heritage site. These medieval fortresses offer views of the surrounding valleys and have played a crucial role in defending the region throughout history. 25 minutes by train from Locarno to Bellinzona station.
Lake Como
A stunning retreat known for its glamorous villas, charming lake-side towns, and breathtaking views of the Alps. Just 1 hr 15 min by train to Como S. Giovanni. Explore the historic center, shop the markets, visit Cattedrale di Como, or grab a bottle of wine and relax by the lake. Take the ferry or rent a boat to Lenno (Villa del Balbianello: Star Wars, James Bond), Tremezzo (botanical gardens at Villa Carlotta), and Bellagio (elegant streets, lakeside views, and villas). Restaurant Recs: Il Diavolo L’Acqua Santa: Off the beaten path with impeccable service. We’re still dreaming about the truffle tagliolini and black tagliolini with citrus and shrimp. BISTROT Figli dei Fiori: Lush, rainforest-themed decor with amazing food and great vibes. Aperitivo Et Al (Bellagio): A wine-lover’s stop still on our bucket list, so tell us if you go!
Milan
Italy’s fashion and design capital - vibrant blend of sleek modernity and historic elegance, offering iconic landmarks like the Duomo, world-class shopping, and a dynamic cultural scene. For football/soccer fans, San Siro is the home stadium of AC Milan and Inter Milan. It’s 2 hours by train to Milano Centrale from Locarno.
Lucerne
A beautiful Swiss city by the lake with a charming old town and mountain views. Things to do: Walk the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), ride the cogwheel train up Mt. Pilatus, explore the old town. Try the restaurants Wirtshaus Galliker for classic Swis food or Mill'Feuille for a relaxed café on the river. 2 hour train ride from Locarno

Interlaken
The adventure capital nestled between two lakes and surrounded by mountains. Things to do: Take the iconic Jungfraujoch trip. Go up via Lauterbrunnen (better for morning light) and return via Grindelwald. Hike to Oeschinensee, a stunning alpine lake about an hour from Interlaken—perfect for nature lovers. Explore Interlaken town or try skydiving or paragliding for a thrill. 4 hour train ride from Locarno to Interlaken Ost.
