It started with a bouquet of flowers at the door. From there we went for dinner and drinks at a local restaurant where we talked about books, whiskey, and family. At the end of the night we climbed into the truck to head home. Little did we know, we both had the exact same idea for a night cap. Eric had pre-packed a cooler with Jamie's favorite local beer in the bed of his truck with a few blankets. Jamie looked at Eric and said "Have you ever been up to Tinton? This might sound corny but I was thinking we could drive up there and check out the stars?" Eric just smiled and turned the truck towards one of the highest drive-able points in Spearfish, SD. There we sat in the bed of the truck, had a few beers and just talked about what brought us each to this moment... our past, our hopes for the future and what we expected out of a relationship. It was in that moment that Eric knew he'd one day propose to the best woman he'd ever met.
It takes a lot to surprise me but he did just that. He wrote "Jamie & Eric Day" in my planner a month prior with the start of school and coaching being the reason behind it. "We are going to need a day to just enjoy each other before the chaos starts". He was right but I thought for sure this was the day it was going to happen. He had pampered me on Friday with a massage, mani and pedicure. That had to mean only one thing right? After a day filled of breakfast in bed, hiking, and a movie I waited "patiently" for the moment. It didn't come so I went into girls golf day on Sunday convinced it was coming later in the fall. Instead, my future husband had the whole thing planned to perfection. The girls did an amazing job of keeping me in the dark until the 17th hole. We had been playing lights out and every one shanks the ball on the tee off on 17, accept me. We pull around to find Eric hiding behind the bushes. He took the time to hire a photographer and it couldn't have been more perfect. Of course I said yes and the rest of the day was a blur. To top off the entire weekend, he had got a few of my closest friends to send video messages congratulating us and wishing us the best. I have never felt more loved than I did in that moment.
