In the beginning ...

Kimlee: I'd just arrived in Ft. Lee, VA and hated it! The process of getting into another new routine. The Army has a knack for trying to disorient you at every turn. After getting settled and slipping into my new "norm", I was fine. However, couldn't stay out of trouble to save my life! James: I was unimpressed with the whole situation [arriving at Ft. Lee] and was wondering what I'd be doing. It wasn't until I was chosen for the DASH 3 program that I saw that I was being treated like a college student, coming and going whenever I wanted, while in training. My duties were different from the other soldiers and in the chowline, I saw HER! I only noticed her because she was always being yelled at or pushin' the ground for the umpteeth time. Kimlee: I noticed this guy who seemed to be outside of the rules and monitoring the rest of us. I didn't know what that was all about and didn't really care as long as I could go from point A to point B without issue. James: I couldn't wait to get off base but, if not, then I'd go to the NCO club, the Sword and Key, with the fellas. Kimlee: Finally, I'm going out with the girls and I just phased out so I get to wear my civiis, not BDUs. James: Out with the fellas, meetin' up with the group, at the Sword. Kimlee: Whew!..finally got a table but, whose the white boy?...and why is he sittin' next to me? I'm waiting to see MY guy come to the club. James: I got to the club just to find out there's no seats so I squeeze in at the table at the only spot available...next to the girl who stays in trouble. She's not bad looking, besides that, my buddy said she likes me so, I'll get to know her story. Kimlee: Great! MY guy shows up looking like some seventies game show host. Everybody looks great in uniform but, who they truly are comes out when they wear their "civiis". What a tragedy! I can't be seen with THAT guy, nope! I'll sit here with the white boy [and hide] besides that, his friend said he likes me and he's cute.
