Picture it. It's April 2020. We're barricaded in our homes alone for a month now, and we're all starting to lose it a little. We log into what's probably our seventh Zoom meeting that Friday - Epic Radiology Implementers Bi-Weekly Division Meeting. Someone unmutes, "Cameras on! I'm going to screenshot a 'group photo' of us!" Kitty the cat's ears perk up. "Did you say photo? I've gotta get in on this. I'm feeling extra cute today," and jumps up on Kate's lap for the photo. Ding - Kate gets a Teams message. "Jake Belongia? That guy whose office has been down the hall from mine for a year but I'm never actually seen in person? Weird." It reads, "Cute cat!!" For the next two weeks, we keep chatting. Kate thinks, "This guy is pretty cute and sweet!" Jake thinks, "Dang it. I was just trying to connect with people while we're WFH, and this chick won't stop messaging me now." Fast forward, and we're hanging out a lot as just friends. One night in August, we bond over watching Hamilton on Disney+ and realize we are exactly the same kind of weird, the same type of nerd, and this could go somewhere. Kitty the cat thinks, "This guy gives the best scritches. I want him to stick around." So he does. Since then, we've traveled from coast to coast, to Milwaukee for Bucks games; to Door County, WI to hike and enjoy nature; to Albuquerque to visit friends; to Minnesota, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and NYC to visit family; and we've discovered some of our favorite places in the US along the way: Balboa Park in San Diego and Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. We've crossed the pond to Manchester, UK. We spent a month exploring Argentina from the Mendoza wine country to the breathtaking Patagonia mountains to sandy beaches of Mar del Plata and made historic Buenos Aires our "home away from home" between excursions. We spoke Spanish just about all the time, and our strengths and weaknesses in our knowledge of the Spanish language complimented each other - just like we do in just about everything we do. Our proudest moment: When Jake had a full conversation in Spanish with an Uber driver for the whole ride. The topic? Basketball of all things! In August 2022, the touring Hamilton cast came to Madison, and we just HAD to go of course! Jake took advantage of this meaningful moment for us and decided to ask the question Kate had been waiting her whole life to hear. "Will you marry me?" Kate remembered her Epic project manager training in that moment and said, "Yes, if... we get a dog." Unfortunately, Kitty said, "Absolutely not. I'm an only child," but we still decided get married nonetheless. And we just couldn't wait! So on November 4, 2022, Jake and Kate said, "I do" inside the historic Madison State Capital Building with an intimate group of our closest family and friends. Unfortunately, Kitty couldn't make it because she's afraid of cars, loud noises, and unfamiliar buildings and people, but she was there in spirit. We have her to thank for setting our romance in motion and for this magic moment to happen at all! Since we're already married, there will be no ceremony. Instead, we're excited for you all to join us for dinner, dancing, and tacos at the historic Majestic Theatre in the heart of downtown Madison, WI to celebrate our love and our marriage this Memorial Day Weekend. Stay a few days to explore Madison and the surrounding areas via our love story scavenger hunt. We're excited to share Madison, our home, with you all, and we cannot wait to see you! With love, Kate and Jake
