It all started when Jacqui's classmate invited her to attend Alabama's homecoming game against Arkansas their freshman year. After a surprisingly close game, her friend told her about a party back at Paty Hall. When they arrived, they were greeted by a room filled with smoke and disco lights with Rae Sremmurd’s new hit “Come Get Her” blasting on a speaker. They looked around and saw 5 freshman, including Connor and 2 of his groomsmen, holding red solo cups and trying way too hard to be cool. The night ended with Connor asking for Jacqui’s number, and the very first thing she texted, included some not so nice things about the Red Sox. In the following weeks, they watched Parks and Rec in each other’s dorms, shared meals together at the dining hall, and occasionally attending Late Night Lakeside for a study break. Although they started off as just friends, everyone around them knew something was there. The night before they headed out for Thanksgiving Break, Jacqui had a small party at her dorm with the Paty Boys who were still in town. After the party ended, Connor helped clean up and kept Jacqui company as she packed. He then asked her to officially be his girlfriend.

The morning of the proposal was anything but normal. Jacqui brought Connor to the doctor to inspect his injured toe. She sat in the car watching Tik Toks, playing Game Pigeon, and checking in on him as the doctor tended to his toe. When Connor returned to the car, the first thing Jacqui noticed was a big, bright red bandage wrapped around his toe and she chuckled to herself, “at least you still have your toe!” They drove back to Mema’s house and enjoyed a nice lunch on the pool patio. Lindsy and her mom wanted to take family photos, so they went inside to change and get ready. As they were deciding on their outfits, Jacqui was stressing out, as usual, exclaiming, “all I brought for nice clothes was this orange shirt, I knew I should have brought more!” Lindsy, not wanting to have the moment ruined, let Jacqui borrow her maroon sweater, one of Jacqui’s favorite colors. Then everyone gathered around the Christmas tree and Connor took some great pictures of the Scalzo girls and the family dog, Tyler! After picture time was over, Mema gave everyone their yearly Christmas ornament. Jacqui received her 25th Madam Alexander Doll while Lindsy got her 23rd Teddy Bear and Horse. And as a soon to be member of the family (Mema was in on the proposal), Connor was given his very first classic car. But Connor had one more special ornament to give. He brought Jacqui over to the tree and pointed out one ornament in particular. She took it off the tree and admired its beauty, an ornate silver ball with gold glitter detail. Connor said, “open it, there’s a surprise!” and as she struggled to open it, he got down on one knee (and one shoe, the toe was still bothering him). He then presented Jacqui with a beautiful ring and asked, “Will you make the me happiest man in the world, and marry me?” In shock - she had no idea it was coming - Jacqui smiled ear to ear and said, “Yes!!” Lindsy captured the magical moment as the newly engaged couple proceeded to celebrate with champagne!
