How we met

Fall 2018

We met at Grace College as a Freshman and Sophomore in our 8am Old Testament I class. Both of us knew of the other but nothing ever happened. Fast forward to the spiring when Grace College had their annual ski trip to Michigan. When Cana arrived with her friends, there were few remaining seats—one by Jacob and two directly behind him. Cana’s friends, attempting to be wing women, promptly took the two seats behind Jacob, forcing Cana to sit next to Jacob. This was followed by a painfully awkward, silent two-hour bus ride full of Cana’s friends laughing as they took secret pictures of the two of us sitting together. In the Lord’s providence and humor, we learned that night that we would be co-workers as RAs in the upcoming year. Soon a new school year started with a wonderful group of coworkers who became dear friends. In the Lord's timing and without us trying, we were brought together in many different circles. We would hang out often in late-night study groups, weekend card games, conversations with LDS missionary friends, and Res life work. After months of friendship, Jacob (finally) asked Cana on a date. We often reflect on the Lord’s timing in this story. What felt like a long time of waiting was for our benefit. Not three weeks after officially dating, Grace sent us home due to the worldwide pandemic. After viewing last-minute flights home, Jacob invited Cana to visit his home in WA to meet his family. So much has happened since. We’ve experienced dating in a quarantined world, long-distance, times of struggle, and times of joy. We are thankful for where the Lord has us and continually learn and pray that the Lord would help us to be content—because His timing is best and he has already given us everything we will ever need in Christ. We are grateful to be able to hold this celebration as a declaration of God’s love for His Bride, the Church, and pray that we would be able to tell the story of His grace through our marriage.
