In lieu of a wedding registry or cash gifts, we have selected 3 charities close to our hearts to which we are encouraging our guests to donate. A contribution to any (or all!) of the charities below would help support crucial work in our community and across the world and would be greatly appreciated.
Against Malaria
As an immunologist studying infectious disease, Julia has dedicated years working in support of medical research. Unlike the highly complicated (and expensive) healthcare challenges that Julia is working to solve, Malaria is cheap and easy to prevent and mitigate. Against Malaria is a highly regarded non-profit that gives nets to families in areas that experience high levels of malaria spread, thereby providing a measure of safety to people who would otherwise be at risk of contracting this debilitating yet preventable disease. Against Malaria will calculate exactly how many nets your donation will purchase which helps give insight into the quantifiable impact of your giving. For all the poor grad students or postdocs who need their donation dollars to stretch, this is an excellent charity for you!
Rainier Scholars
Jacob and Julia have been quite fortunate in the educational opportunities available to them and Rainier Scholars is a Seattle-based organization that helps provide these same opportunities to underrepresented students of color. By creating access to transformative educational and career opportunities and providing comprehensive support to scholars and families, Rainier Scholars increases college graduation rates and empowers new generations of leaders.
Rainier Scholars serves those students with the greatest number of barriers to achieving a college education – students of color from low-income backgrounds who will be the first in their family to earn a college degree. Starting in 5th grade, it serves students most underrepresented on college campuses and in the leadership pools of our country.

Jewish Joint Distribution Committee
100 years ago the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) saved part of Jacob's family, providing crucial assistance as his great grandfather fought to leave Poland and rising anti-Semitism to come to America. Today the JDC is on the forefront in Ukraine, providing frontline emergency assistance and advocacy for Jewish women, children and the elderly who are fleeing their war torn country. Their emergency shelters and medical facilities provide comfort and aid to any and all who enter their door.
