Flight
The most common way into Santorini is through Athens. From there you can take a short flight or a long ferry ride (we recommend flying: 45 minutes vs. 6 hours). Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from the US to Santorini, and even direct flights to Athens are not very common (at least from DC). However, it is a great opportunity to see some more of Europe while you're across the pond! If you are looking to expand your trip and visit other places in Europe, here are a few airlines that fly directly into/out of Santorini from outside Greece: Aegean (Athens) Ryanair (Athens) Condor (Munich) easyJet (London) Iberia (Madrid) Thomas Cook (London) Vueling (Barcelona, Rome) Norwegian (London) Transavia (Amsterdam) Volotea (Venice) Swiss (Zurich) We recommend Google Flights to find out more. Santorini Airport Code is (JTR).
Hotel
You'll find us here, by the pool bar! This is the largest hotel on the caldera side with a variety of room types. The hotel provides free shuttle service from the airport, be sure to arrange beforehand. *Shuttles to wedding events will pick up/drop off here*
Hotel
De Sol is located directly across the street from the Volcano View Hotel. This is an economical option as the views of the caldera are limited. What it lacks in view, though, is offset in newer rooms, pool, bar, and spa facility. The De Sol is built on level ground, and is recommended for anyone with mobility issues (Hotels built on the caldera side of the street tend to have many stairs).
Hotel
We highly recommend this hotel if you have a late overnight layover in Athens before arriving in Santorini or before heading home. It is steps from the airport, which makes it extremely convenient (especially after a long trip!) However, if you plan on spending more time in Athens, stay downtown instead! (The airport/Sofitel is about 40 minutes from downtown Athens).
Rental Car
A popular way to explore Santorini is by renting a car, ATV, or scooter. The island is not very big, 45 minutes from top to bottom, parking is free, and it’s a great way to get off the beaten path and explore. There are shuttles, buses, and cabs, so it’s definitely not necessary. This site links all the major car rental agencies on the island but there are local companies as well, so it should be no problem to book when you arrive. Keep in mind that most cars in Greece are manual, so if you need an automatic, be sure to book that in advance
Travel Note
If you plan on staying in Athens, doing some additional touring, and need a driver, we highly recommend George's Taxi service. We have used them twice and they were beyond wonderful each time.
