Pioneertown and Rimrock are located at 4,000 feet above sea level, on the edge of the Mojave Desert. Temperatures can be 10-15 degrees cooler than in the valley (Yucca Valley where Joshua Tree National Park is located) and the Palm Springs area. Historical data indicates the temperature in early May can be between 65 - 85 degrees during the day, and temperatures can drop up to 20 degrees when the sun goes down. So LAYERS is key!
As mentioned in the previous Q&A, temperatures can drop significantly once the sun goes down, so always have layers with you. For the wedding, we're calling the dress code cocktail-desert attire; please be comfortable, bring layers, and feel free to get funky, you'll fit in perfectly in the desert. Ladies, we highly recommend a jacket for the end of the night (think fur/fringe), no matter how hot it is on your way to the wedding. There are tons of incredible thrift stores in town to find a cool coat for the weekend. It can be dusty/dirty out there, so we also recommend closed toed shoes or boots, the dress with boots look is very common. Stilettos will not be your friend, as the heels will likely sink into the ground. There is also a western vibe around town, and feel free to join in, but we are not going to be doing the full-blown western theme with cowboy hats and boots.
