McKenzie River Trail

McKenzie River Trail, OR

Named one of the best mountain biking and running trails in the US, the McKenzie River trail runs along the McKenzie River. Bring a bike, or rent one from Blazin Saddles Bike Shop or Horse Creek Lodge & Outfitters. Or just stroll along the river for stunning views, swimming holes and quintessential Oregon scenery. There are multiple points of access.

Sahalie Falls

McKenzie Bridge, OR

A 20 min drive from Loloma Lodge, Sahalie Falls is a massive waterfall plunging 100 feet over a natural lava dam. The viewing platform is less than 100 feet from the parking lot, making for an easy and rewarding trip. For another waterfall and more of a walk take the 2.6-mile loop trail from Sahalie Falls to Koosah Falls. Koosah falls drops 70 feet into a deep pool and the trail to it borders the McKenzie River, winding through the forest. We highly recommend going to Sahalie Falls for this classic Oregon waterfall!

Tamolitch Falls (Blue Pool)

McKenzie Bridge, OR

One of the more popular places along the McKenzie River trail, Tamolitch Pool (aka Blue Pool), is famous for its topaz blue color and clear water. The pool is 3 miles from Carmen Smith Reservoir or 2 miles from the Trailbridge Reservoir. If you google the Tamolitch Trail Head this is the Trailbridge Reservoir starting point and a 16 min drive from Loloma Lodge. It's a gorgeous place and good for swimming on a hot day.

Dee Wright Observatory

Old McKenzie Highway, Blue River, OR

A 45 min drive from Loloma Lodge, The Dee Wright Observatory offers panoramic views across 65 square miles of black lava rock. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Washington, Mt. Jefferson, all three sisters and Mt. Hood. Head inside to read interpretive panels and learn about local geology and early travelers to the area. The Lava River National Recreation Trail is a half mile long and located next to the Dee Wright Observatory. An interpretive trail, it weaves through lava flows that are 2,000 to 2,700 years old.

Belknap Hot Springs

When visiting one must explore and seek out the Secret Gardens on both sides of the river, to find yourself in a fairytale setting. There strolling paths throughout the gardens and easy access to the 26 mile long McKenzie River Trail.
