How we met

From Math Tutoring to Marriage

Karly and Jackson met at Pitzer College math tutoring when she was an ambitiously mathletic senior and he was a curly-haired freshman science nerd with fabulous arms and an easy-going demeanor. They decided that their less-than-one-year-long relationship couldn't stand three years of long distance and planned to break up on the night of Karly's graduation. But fortunately, disaster struck. Karly and her entire family got food poisoning. It wasn't pretty. Karly herself was so ill and pathetic that Jackson didn't have the heart to break up with her. So they stayed together for the summer and intended to break up when Karly started graduate school in Chicago. However, the summer wasn't so bad and they fell deeper in love. So, with lots of Skype calls, perseverance, and eventually Zacko's United Airline's buddy passes, these two proved that they were willing to go the distance for each other. After three years of long distance, Jackson picked Karly up from the airport the day before his college graduation and said, "Welcome to the first day of the rest of our lives."

The Proposal

A Whale of a Proposal

After almost two years of living together in Chicago, the couple decided they were ready to take the plunge. On March 1, 2019 (their five-year anniversary), Jackson took Karly on an anniversary outing to the Shedd Aquarium. They wandered around, enjoying the various displays of marine magnificence, and eventually making their way to a back room for The Beluga Encounter. For the next hour they played with, trained, and fed Bella, a beautiful beluga. Bella was very good at fetch. Karly threw out toy after toy, each one retrieved with gusto. When Bella brought back the final toy, Karly realized it wasn’t a toy all - it was a box with a ring inside!

The Location

Why Utah?

Ok, so it's true that in Utah you can buy only 3.2% beer in a grocery store. It's also true that Salt Lake City is a Delta (not United) hub. And worse still, Mike Weinholtz didn't win the 2016 gubernatorial election. (We were really pulling for him, and not just because his son is our Best Man.) Despite all that, it turns out Utah is an incredible place! After many visits to the Brint Family Home in Kamas, Karly and Jackson fell in love with the natural beauty and mountains of Utah, and they hope you will too!
