Your travel should BEGIN no later than 3/27/2025 in order to arrive ON TIME for the wedding weekend! It is a semi-long flight (10 hours) - buy a neck pillow! The local language is Portuguese, it is very common for citizens to speak English. Locals are very friendly and helpful and if by chance you need to communicate in Portuguese, your phone should have 'Google Translate' as an installed application. This application allows you to communicate in many languages, including Portuguese. Portugal has relatively mild winters and hot summers. Spring is a shoulder season and is a great time to visit! In late-March, early April, average daytime temperatures are around 65-68°F. Rain isn’t uncommon, but mostly, you can expect beautiful sunny skies. Sometimes temperatures rise to summer-like, 77°F. Portugal uses Euros versus Dollars, there are plenty of opportunities to exchange our money for theirs - the current exchange rate is $1.10 is equal to 1 Euro. Look for the booths in the airport before exiting. You can also exchange money here in the US prior to leaving, speak with your local bank for details. Download the application "WhatsApp" - it will allow you to communicate via phone calls/text with anyone over Wi-Fi, free of charge; make sure your family/friends download it too. Transportation is easy in Europe; UBER works here, or you can download their version of the app called BOLT. It is a 40 minute drive from LIS airport to Penha Longa Resort - costing approximately 30 euros each way.

Rental Car

At Lisbon Airport, the Uber (and Bolt, Freenow, etc) pickup area is at the departures area in Terminal 1 near the Kiss & Fly car park (also known as Parque P1 Partidas). Head up the escalators (you’ll see a sign saying ‘check in’ above the stairs next to it). These are located above the car rental area. Pass the Heineken bar on your left and go through the automatic doors marked ‘Salida’ or ‘Exit.’ Once outside, you will need to use the pedestrian crossing to cross over to the Kiss & Fly car park. This is just after the bus stop. This is where the driver should pick you up, and most likely will. If you have any problems, try phoning the driver or send them a message through the app.
