Denver, CO
We met at work in Denver, CO in 2016 and built a friendship during early morning shifts with plenty of coffee and shared madeleines from Starbucks. In what would become a general theme of our relationship, I (Ivy) was completely oblivious when, after many months of friendship, Jasper expressed his feelings for me after a date I didn't realize was a date. Thankfully, I (Ivy) got over my surprise and gave this wonderful man (Jasper) a chance to go on more dates together that I was aware were dates. After six years together, one house, a million laughs, four cats (not all at the same time), gallons of coffee, and some of the best memories of our lives, Jasper managed to pull off one heck of a proposal. In true fashion, I (Ivy) had no idea it was about to happen. Jasper planned a camping trip to Lake Granby, CO, where we took our first camping trip together as a couple. Days before the trip, I wondered aloud, "Isn't this where we first went camping together?" Jasper played it off with a casual "Oh, I don't remember." He did ALL the cooler and food packing without complaint, which should have clued me in that something was up, but it was so he could hide all of my favorite treats he was packing for the trip. Two of our dear friends extended their own camping trip in Granby an extra night (hey Cierra and Levi!) so they could hang out with us! Cierra apologized to me for "crashing our trip" and hoped we didn't mind. I (Ivy) said to her, "There is no scenario I wouldn't want you here with us! Even if it was a surprise proposal, you're one of my best friends, and I absolutely would want you here!" Cue Jasper having a silent heart attack that I knew what was about to happen. Spoiler alert, I did NOT know what was about to happen. Of note: Jasper and I were designing my engagement ring together with a designer in Denver, so while I knew we were going to be engaged soon-ish... I was unprepared for it to happen before the ring was finished. So there we are, having camp cocktails and playing Scrabble with our friends at our campsite, and Jasper suggests we all head down to the lake for some pictures of the sunset over the water. I grab my tripod and we all head down. Unbeknownst to me, Cierra, and Levi, Jasper had my Nonna's ring in his pocket. After a few group photos, Jasper asked Cierra to take a few of just us. She saw him shift the ring box from one pocket to the other and quickly (and silently!) indicated to Levi to start recording. So there I am, spinning around in the sunset going in for another hug, when Jasper drops down on one knee and says some really nice stuff that made me cry a little, and asks me to marry him. I said yes. Which brings us to the reason you're here reading this story on this website!
