It’s technically not a destination wedding for us! Rob and I will be living on our boat in St Lucia in October of 2018. We want to get married on our trip, instead of flying back to the states to get married. We thought this might present our friends and family with a unique opportunity to experience a slice of our adventure with us. That being said, we completely understand that many of our friends and family simply won't be able to make the trip due to time or finance constraints. We are going to miss you - but we COMPLETELY understand. Just so you don't feel left out, we hope to provide a live feed of the event.
For anyone attending the wedding - your presence is your gift! If you are unable to make the wedding and would still like to send a gift- you can access our registry from this website.
We would like to know if you are planning on attending as soon as possible but not later than August 1, 2018, so that we can plan accordingly! Even if you aren’t 100% sure you can swing it - please let us know if you are interested or if you already know you can’t make it.
We will provide shuttle service from the Stonefield to the Viceroy.
Yes - please check out our wedding schedule of events for a list of organized activities for the group. We plan to have a few different options for all various ages and adventure levels. Everyone is invited to attend every event and we would love to have you. That said, this is your vacation and you are not required to attend any event that doesn't fit into your schedule. Please RSVP as soon as possible to each event so we can get an accurate head count.
Casual elegance. For men, this means a streamlined look with suit pants or slacks with a button-down shirt, blazers and ties are optional, but a belt or suspenders is a must. No jeans please. We welcome flip flips and converse under the right circumstances. Ask your partner if you are unsure whether your look qualifies as "the right circumstance". Women might wear a cocktail or summer dress, or a classy pant suit. Separates are also appropriate, as long as they look put together; a dress skirt with a silk blouse will fit right in. Dressy heels or flats complete the look.
St Lucia has two airports - International Airport, Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia (UVF) and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU), which is the smaller of the two airports. UVF is about an hour drive to the Viceroy at Sugar Beach, and SLU is about an hour and a half. We just purchased flights from NOLA (MSY) to UVF for October of 2017 on Delta for $428/ seat, which was the lowest cost we found in 4 months of searching daily. Prices ranged from $428- $1,200, so we encourage you to keep searching and wait to purchase until you get a good deal. We also found that searching on the airlines actual sites was better than using Kayak or Expedia, which often failed to show the lowest price found on the airlines website. Airlines to search: Delta American Airlines JetBlue United From DFW - the best flight seems to be on American from $850 From LAX - the best flight appears to be on JetBlue from $503 From IAX (Houston) - best flight seems to be on Delta from $750
St. Lucia is sufficiently close to the equator that it does not have well-defined seasons. The weather is warm and balmy with high humidity all year round. Afternoon rains are more common between June and November. Hurricane season also runs June through November, and although St. Lucia is technically in the hurricane belt -- most activity passes far to the northwest of the island because the active core of the hurricane belt -- that part of the open ocean where the storm systems typically gain strength over warm, open water -- is far north of the island's location. Hurricanes usually gain strength as they move west toward the U.S. Most weather systems with hurricane potential that affect Saint Lucia are therefore immature, ill-formed and weak. For this reason, in those rare events when hurricanes do hit the island, they are almost invariably categories 1 or 2.
Yes, we highly recommend obtaining travel insurance for your flight and room accommodations. We will be getting event insurance as well! Better safe than sorry.
If you are actively planning on getting pregnant, unfortunately St. Lucia might not be a good idea. Zika virus (or Zika) has been reported in Saint Lucia. Public health officials have reported that mosquitoes in Saint Lucia are infected with Zika and spreading it to people. Many people infected with Zika virus do not get sick or only have mild symptoms. However, infection during pregnancy can cause severe birth defects. Because there is no vaccine or medicine for Zika, travelers should take steps to prevent getting Zika during travel. They should also take steps to prevent spreading it when they return home.
