One day during our time spent at college, Rick and I happened to be hanging out with mutual friends and I introduced myself. This is where we formally met, however, we had a vague idea of each other before meeting (small campus.) It was nothing more than “hi nice to meet you” and I don’t think either of us gave it a second thought. To put it bluntly; I had always thought he was too short for me. All we really were for a while, is how we always envisioned we would stay, mutual friends/acquaintances. Until one day, Rick needed a ride home (back in the days before he had a car) and I agreed to do it for him even though I didn't know him very well yet. Things flowed so naturally with us. It was as if I had known him for years of my life already the way we were able to talk to each other so openly. I remember days later he had come to my apartment to help me move out for Christmas break without me even asking him to, and we spilled our guts to each other about our past and what we want for the future, etc. Basically whatever you could think of, I told this kid that I had only known a few weeks to a month. He did the same. After that conversation, I remember thinking to myself “wow, I’ve never opened myself up to someone so quickly”. Down the line, he told me that he felt the exact same way about that night. Rick and I stayed friends, hanging out constantly. Things were going incredibly. One day, after days on end of spending nearly moment together, I asked him of a whim if he was in love with me. He said yes. We've been together since that day in January 2015.
Rick’s family’s house in Wallingford. We were there for a New Years Eve night but there were more people there than usual. I was pretty happy to see everyone, didn’t think anything of it. His sister did an extra-lovely job on the decorations too (which I also, didn’t think anything of). We take a video every year of us kissing at the ball drop, I went to go take our video, and instead of going in for the kiss he got down on one knee!
