Travel Note
Thais drive on the left side of the road, and the traffic makes Los Angeles look quaint. If you are traveling into Bangkok, do not rent a car or try to drive. Instead, download Grab, Southeast Asia's version of Uber/Lyft. Use it and public transit (BTS Skytrain and Metro) to get around quickly. For a true Thai experience, book a ride on the back of a motorbike and zip through traffic!
Train
If you're traveling around Bangkok, taking the BTS Skytrain or Metro is a good way to beat the traffic. Metro (underground) stations accept tap to pay, so you can use your phone or credit card directly without buying a ticket first. BTS Skytrain will require you to buy a pass or individual trip ticket, but you can tap to pay at the machine.
Travel Note
Most stores in Thailand accept credit cards. However, many smaller vendors and street food stalls only accept bank to bank transfer (available for Thai citizens) or cash. If you are traveling into Thailand, have some cash to exchange to Thai baht, or have a way to withdraw money from ATMs with no/low fees. For credit cards, check to make sure they do not charge conversion and other fees for international transactions. If needed, notify your bank and credit card issuer that you'll be traveling.
