Great hiking in the Gorge on the Sheltowee Trace is a 319-mile National Recreation Trail that spans the Daniel Boone National Forest and Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Kentucky and Tennessee. The name "Sheltowee" honors the history of Daniel Boone, who was captured by Shawnee Indians while making salt in an area close to the present-day trail. Chief Blackfish, his adopted Shawnee father, renamed him Sheltowee, which meant "Big Turtle."
Tunnel Ridge Road takes you to many different hiking trails in the national forest that lead to beautiful outlooks, meadows, creeks and incredible rock formations. Some of our most favorite hikes are located here. *Hiking Project is a great resource for navigating these trails.
Sky Bridge, is not only a lodge but also a laid back bar with draft beer and with some good eats. Across from here is their new spot called The Brick. They offer ice cream and coffee as well a beautiful display of local Turtle Farm Pottery!
