We met at midnight at Ohiopyle Falls Pub after a night of dancing our hearts out. What Scott didn't know was that I had spotted him the day before as I had pulled into town and had said to my friend Anna, "who's that cute boy!?" I just kept seeing him everywhere after that. A month later, after a few text and Facebook messages, Scott offered to pick me up to go kayak the Savage River. When he dropped me off that evening Scott said "I really like you, can I see you again," and the rest is history. I think we've seen each other just about everyday since then.
Scott and I planned our first winter hut trip together to the 10th Mountain Division Huts above Aspen, Colorado. The first day of the trip we arrived at the rustic, typically booked full, hut looking out over Aspen to find out we had the beautiful space all to ourselves. With a clear sky we got a perfect view of the super blood moon lunar eclipse. The next morning we had a long day of skiing to the second hut. I had noticed a small odd shape container in Scott's hip belt of his pack as we headed out the door but paid no attention to it. A few hours into our day we found this slightly down hill section that casually twisted and turned through the trees and Scott and I were all smiles having the time of our life. We were taking turns videoing each other and laughing and giggling. Scott skied ahead to get a video of me come down one section and as I rounded the bend I saw him down on the ground. My first thought was he had fallen and before I could ask him what happened I noticed he had a small box in his hand. For a split second I was confused and then I started to cry as he asked me to marry him. It was the most perfect proposal for us, in the middle of the wilderness, the only witness the birds above us. Serendipitously, the day only got more magical when we arrived at the second hut only to find out all of the other skiers staying with us were Pittsburgh natives. As soon as they heard of the engagement we became their guests and they showered us with love, drinks, incredible food, and gave us the private room complete with tie-dyed light up balloons they had packed in for their party. It was like the perfectly planned engagement party.
