Travel Note

General Planning

For those coming from North America, far be it from us to tell you how to travel, but we recommend that you arrive at least a day before (the 30th or earlier) for jet lag reasons. There are numerous great museums, restaurants, and comfy beds in Stockholm to explore while you adjust to the new time zone (please see the Things do to tab). One jet lag fighter is also of the most Swedish things you can do: fika (pronounced 'fee-ka') which is coffee and a pastry while having a good conversation. The hotel we are all staying at is approximately an hour and a half (1:30) from Stockholm Arlanda airport, so it may be difficult to return to the United States on the 2nd, because the direct flight/most connecting flights leave in the morning. Consider visiting more of the sights of Stockholm, or a relaxing stay in the nature of the Stockholm archipelago.

Hotel

Skeviks Gård

Gustavsberg, Stockholms län 134 32, Sweden

Direct questions to reception@skevik.se We have booked the entire hotel for the entire weekend, which means we can focus on having a great time with each other!

Flight

Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Stockholm has one major international airport, Arlanda (ARN).

Flight

Flights

Flights are available on Delta Air Lines direct from New York JFK, or through a connection in either Amsterdam or Paris. If this doesn't work for you (boo!), there are directs from the United States on SAS, or through your favorite airline connecting through Europe. In any case, consider booking your flights sooner than later, as Europe flights generally do not get cheaper with time.

Train

Arlanda Express

This is our preferred way to get to Stockholm from ARN airport. It takes 18 min and you can buy tickets to and from at the machines on the platform.

Travel Note

Hotels Before and After

Stockholm is a fairly compact city. However, if you drift outside the core, you may still be in the city but there won’t be much going on. Also, my American friends, remember that large rooms, air conditioning, elevators, or even windows are not god-given rights in Europe, especially in buildings that are centuries old. If the price is cheap, you’ll soon find out which your room is missing out on. Some of our recommendations: Gamla Stan Collector’s Victory Hotel (https://www.thecollectorshotels.se/en/victory-hotel/) - Boat-themed rooms, close to the Friday pickup. Very cozy, gives a very European theme. Part of a small local chain of other small, cute hotels that are close Downtown Scandic Haymarket (https://www.scandichotels.com/hotels/sweden/stockholm/haymarket-by-scandic?bookingCode=QSUNDAY) - Nice hotel near downtown and train station. Great hotel breakfast, which is a very Swedish thing. Scandic Hotels are a Scandinavian chain (obviously), and there are numerous iterations in Stockholm. They differ in levels of fanciness, but overall are a safe but boring choice. Don’t forget about the too small price = too small room maxim. The Sparrow (https://www.thesparrow.se) - neat little hotel close to everything, at the confluence of pleasant and walkable neighborhoods At Six (https://hotelatsix.com) - Fancy hotel in a cool neighborhood. Very centrally located. Sheraton/Hilton - Boring, but dependable. Only recommended if you have points to burn. Grand Hotel (https://grandhotel.se/en) Damn, son: you’re doing this right! Pricey, beautiful. Surrounded by other pricey, beautiful hotels in a pricey neighborhood with beautiful people.
