Inspired by our love for the natural world, we will both assume the last name “Idyllwild.” This name we chose evokes the gorgeous wilderness and our shared journey over the years. In the year following our proposal, we kept a wooden box filled with slips of paper we’d scribble with potential last names. The box overflowed with inspiration from idyllic scenes — majestic mountains, serene forests, flowing rivers. While we chose to keep our individual family names, we wanted to adopt another that embodies the essence of our shared spirit and adventure. The name we chose has been a quiet presence in our home, decorating the kitchen fridge since we traveled with our wedding party to witness the 2024 solar eclipse. “Idyllwild” captures our desire to cultivate a life together that reflects the ever-changing beauty of nature. By adopting our chosen name, we forge a new identity as a couple and honor the connections that shaped us.
