Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the U.S., with striking multi-story adobe homes built between 1000–1450 AD. It’s a living Native American village—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark—that offers a remarkable journey into centuries of Tiwa culture, architecture, and traditions.
Just 7 miles north of Taos, Arroyo Seco is a historic, artsy village at ~7,500 ft elevation. It’s known for unique galleries, pottery studios, and cozy cafés. Emily & Will love ACEQ and the ice cream at Taos Cow.
Taos Ski Valley has a bike park, a scenic lift, a via ferrata, UTV tours, hiking, and a bavarian restaurant! It's peak aspen season so the leaves will probably be beautiful here.
Just 40 minutes from Taos, Angel Fire Resort is a summer adventure hub with scenic chairlift rides, hiking, ziplining, and one of the country’s best mountain bike parks. Visitors can also enjoy paddleboarding and fishing at Monte Verde Lake, golfing, and family-friendly fun like disc golf and pickleball.
You can search Black Rock Hot Springs, NM in Google Maps and it will take you to the parking lot. A natural hot spring and a favorite morning soak spot of Emily & Will's whenever we're in town. It's a short, but somewhat rocky walk down to the river. The natural pools can hold about 10 people at a time. Note: this hot spring is clothing optional.
Nestled in the heart of downtown Taos, this historic plaza was once a fortified Spanish square and now flourishes as the vibrant center of the Taos Historic District.
Just a short drive from Taos, the Earthship Visitor Center offers a glimpse into ultra‑sustainable, off‑grid living—featuring passive‑solar homes built from recycled materials like rammed tires, glass, and cans, complete with self-contained energy, water, and food systems.
This iconic 84‑mile loop starts and ends in Taos, circling around Wheeler Peak (13,161 ft), New Mexico's highest mountain. The route winds through charming alpine towns like Questa, Red River, Eagle Nest, and Angel Fire, offering breathtaking mountain views, forested valleys, clear lakes, and cultural highlights—including historic mining villages and quirky roadside memorials.
