We met while serving on the mission field in Costa Rica at 6:8 Ministries. The first time we met was while we were interns during the summer of 2023 but we served in different ministry locations and spent only a few days together. We both felt called to Costa Rica to serve God and moved down full time in January of 2024. We became fast friends figuring out life on the mission field. Even though we swore we were only friends…… God had other plans.

Once I had found out John had never seen “The Office,” it was a requirement for our friendship. Just like me, John fell in love with Jim and Pam’s love story and the special moments they shared. John knew when he was ready to propose he wanted to create something special that I would appreciate and would be specific to us. One evening John asked if we could go talk on the top balcony of the team house where we work. It is one of my favorite places in the world with an amazing view of the city. As he guided me up the staircase I began to see the stairs covered with lit candles. When we reached the balcony I saw a moka coffee pot. John asked me to open the bottle part first and when I did, I saw a bunch of small items and pieces of paper. I asked him, “are you recreating the tea pot from The Office?” He said yes. He had filled the pot with little memories and treasures from our time together. Next I opened the top part of the pot and found a beautiful love letter. After I finished reading it with tears in my eyes John was on one knee asking me to marry him. To which of course I said…… absolutely I do!
