There is SO much hiking in the Sugarloaf area. Whether you take a short walk into one of the Maine Huts (mainehuts.org) or brave an overnight expedition across Bigelow Mountain Range, there is something for everyone. Having lived here for 3 years, Sarah has many recommendations so feel free to reach out. Here are some of her highlights: Easy: West mountain falls hike from the golf course, hiking partially up Burnt mountain to one of the swimming holes, any of the Maine Huts, or hiking up the Boardwalk ski trail to the Skyline chairlift for some valley views Medium: Burnt mountain, little Bigelow mountain, Cranberry Peak (part of the Bigelow range, trailhead in Stratton), hike up to Bullwinkes (via Boardwalk to peavy x-cut to tote road and then follow signs to Bullwinkle's), hike to King Pine chair via either Whiffletree trail or condo x-cut. Hard: Top of Sugarloaf, Hike the Bigelow range or any of the individual peaks, Mt. Abraham in Kingfield, Tumbledown Mountain in Dixfield,
Beat the heat by swimming in the Carrabassett Valley town pool, the indoor pool at the Sugarloaf Fitness Center, or pop into the river or one of the many swimming holes around town. Ask a local about HOuston Brook Falls and brave the icy waters from a 20 foot cliff jump!
