Swiped right on Mr. Right

The one time online dating didn't suck

Let me set the scene: It's August 2018- smack dab in the middle of Maine's hottest and most humid summer season. Sarah, a very (some may even say professionally) single woman is living alone in downtown Farmington, a barren wasteland for anyone single and under the age of 65. Jake, a newly single divorcee, is living in Waldoboro, also a barren wasteland for anyone single and under the age of 65. The two did not know each other, existed in completely different parts of Maine, and never would have crossed paths if it weren't for that fateful day when a single swipe would change both of their lives forever. Sarah was visiting her dear friends Jon (their officiant) and Andrea (flower extraordinare) Ault in Gardiner, when the conversation turned to worst dates ever. After Jon regailed Sarah and Andrea with a long winded (typical) tale of a failed home made yogurt making date, Sarah entertained them with woeful tales of online dating. Specifically, the "beta" men she had met on Bumble. Alas, the Aults had never experienced Bumble before seeing as how they had been married for two years and are farmers who don't use :technology" or "online dating apps". It wasn't long before Jon was swiping through Sarah's Bumble offerings and the three were dissecting the *limited* options available to her. Then, BEHOLD! A cute, rugged looking red(ish) head appeared, throwing a football none the less. "Huzzah!" exclaimed Sarah, "swipe right on this one!". But because Jon was holding the phone so it was facing Sarah and still doesn't know his right form his left, he sadly swiped left on Jacob N. (29 miles away). It seemed for a moment all hope was lost, but then suddenly a stroke of genius descended upon Sarah (she does had a Masters after all) as she exclaimed "shake it!" and suddenly, Ta Da, Jake's profile reappeared and she hastily swiped right. To their delight, it was a match! They briefly conversed, set a date, met at Kume a week later for sushi, and the rest is history.
