Long distance has been a defining part of our relationship since 2018 when Brandon moved to Chicago and Jordan stayed in Los Angeles. As we began looking for a wedding venue last year, we quickly realized that no location in either city felt quite right to us. Instead, we've opted for an adventure far from home to create new memories with our friends and family while we celebrate this special occasion!
While we would love for you to attend our wedding, we understand that traveling the whole way to Scotland is not easy or cheap. We will also be hosting a post-wedding celebration in New Jersey in fall of 2025 if that's an easier trip for you. (Details on the NJ celebration TBD.)
Please RSVP by Friday, April 4, 2025.
Due to the size of our venue, we have to be pretty strict about how many people attend. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed at the venue. If you have been designated a plus one for the event, it will be indicated on your invitation. If you'd like to travel with a companion who is not coming to the wedding, there are plenty of nearby accommodations and activities for them while you attend the wedding events.
First and foremost, you need a valid passport. Starting this year, you also need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). Please see below for more info.
Starting this year, American and Canadian citizens will need to apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. It costs £10 to apply and you are typically approved within 3 working days. You will need your passport to apply. Learn more here and let us know if you have any questions: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta
Please visit the "Travel" page on the website for all details. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to Brandon or Jordan directly.
There is ample parking at Auchen Castle. However, if you're staying in Moffat and plan to drink at the wedding, we will be arranging shuttle vans to get guests to and from the castle. Stay tuned for more specific information.
Right now, we're planning for all wedding events to be inside. However, the castle has beautiful grounds that you're welcome to explore, and if the weather is good enough we may have people spill outside for cocktail hour.
We request Formal Attire for our wedding ceremony and reception on Saturday. Dresses: Floor-length, midi, and upscale cocktail styles are are all welcome. Not into dresses? A jumpsuit works too! Suits: It will be daytime in the spring, so lighter toned suits are a great option. Want to add a pop of color? Go for it! Dress Kilts: If you want to embrace the Scottish culture, feel free to go this route!
We request Semi-Formal Attire for the welcome dinner on Friday. Cocktail or midi length dresses | Dressy separates | Jumpsuits Button down shirts | Sweaters | Slacks | Blazers/sport coats optional | Ties optional Please no jeans or sneakers
This is probably our most frequently asked question. Brandon will not be wearing a kilt. But if you would like to, you absolutely should!
The average temperature in Scotland in mid-May is 55-65°F. May is one of the drier months in Scotland, but there is always a chance of rain. Just keep an eye on the forecast closer to the wedding date for any unexpected weather.
Scotland is in the BST time zone in May. We will be 5 hours ahead of EDT, 6 hours ahead of CDT, and 8 hours ahead of PDT. Sunrise will be around 5am and sunset will be around 9:30pm.
Yes! The castle is a lovely space surrounded by beautiful grounds. Please take advantage of all the daylight and snap as many photos as you'd like while you're visiting. That being said, we ask that you do NOT take photos during the wedding ceremony. We have an amazing photographer who will be capturing those moments, and we'd ask that you keep your phones and cameras away.
We traveled to Scotland in May 2024 and had cell signal everywhere except for when we were up in the middle of the highlands. (Brandon has AT&T and Jordan has T-Mobile, both of which had similar signal.) Check your cellular plans for your specific international coverage.
Yes! You'll need to consider voltage and power adaptors when traveling to Scotland. In the UK, outlets are calibrated to 220-240 volts, while in the United States, outlets are calibrated to 110-120 volts. Most modern devices like laptops and smartphones do not require a voltage converter (e.g. a standard iPhone charger can handle 100-240 volts), but be sure to check your devices prior to traveling. Regardless of voltage, you will need a UK power adaptor, as power sockets in the UK are different from those used in the rest of the world.
The pound Sterling (£), commonly abbreviated to GBP, is the official currency used in Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom. Most places take credit card -- just be aware that foreign transaction fees may apply unless you have a card without them. Moffat has a bank with an ATM if you need cash while in town for the wedding.
Yes! (Unless you're vegetarian/vegan -- though lots of places appear to have veggie versions available.) Look, we've all eaten hot dogs and not thought about it too much, and haggis is better than hot dogs. We both had haggis several times during our 2024 trip and really enjoyed it. Embrace Scottish cuisine!
Yes, we will be traveling to Northern Italy for a couple weeks following the wedding!
