Our first three dates happened over the span of five days and included over 10 miles of walking along RI coasts in 30 degree weather. After the second date, Heather told Anuj she needed to "charge her social battery", but would love to hang out the next weekend. She texted him an hour later to say her social battery was actually "fully charged", and could she see him again in two days? The rest is history.
Anuj got his dream job just six weeks after meeting Heather. Great news, right? Except for the fact that his dream job was in Washington, DC. Even that early, we both knew the other person was too special to let go, so we committed to doing long distance.
Anuj proposed to Heather in the middle of 6 mile run in her favorite city: Warren, RI. Heather's sister, Emily, drove up to RI for the day to join in the surprise and photograph the event. Between the tears in her eyes and the sweat fogging up her glasses, Heather couldn't see the ring and could only say, "I can't see. I can't see." To which Anuj responded, "Well, I'm just going to put this on you now." Heather finally said "I will" after the run.
On Father's Day 2024, the McMordie and Srinivasan families gathered in the McMordie home for a beautiful and intimate Hindu engagement ceremony, "nichatartham." During this ceremony, the families exchanged plates of food and spices, Heather and Anuj changed into new sarees and kurthas, and Anuj's sister, Veebhu, sang a beautiful song to close the ceremony.
The very next day, our families headed to Perkasie Borough Hall for a civil ceremony officiated by Mayor Hollenbach (who was also coincidentally the local high school football coach when Heather was in high school). The ceremony was perfect and full of laughter (especially when Anuj snuck in a kiss during the ring exchange). Afterwards we picnicked at Lake Galena and enjoyed time together as two united families.
In true Heather and Anuj fashion, long-distance life continued for another month after our ceremony. Heather still had one last course to teach at Brown University, and an apartment and art studio to pack up in RI. On the last weekend in July, however, Heather finally moved to VA to join Anuj in their beautiful little apartment in Arlington.
In the morning of June 27, 2025, we will have another wedding! We look forward to celebrating with you then!
