Rogers Orchards is a true New England-style orchard, farm, and bakery that has been in business since 1809. It’s also a perfect place to have a really fun fall day. Make sure to check out the farm store for fresh apple cider donuts and other amazing goodies!
Fun fact: Lake Compounce is America’s oldest continuously operating theme park, and only 15 minutes away from the hotels! We think it’s worth a trip if you’re not local.
If you’re looking for something a little more laidback, we love Witchdoctor. Fantastic beer and a great spot for music, darts, pool tables, and more. (They do not serve food onsite, but there are usually food trucks on the weekends…plus, you’re only steps away from the many restaurants downtown Southington has to offer!)
This gorgeous winery is a little further away from Southington, but it’s worth the trip. Hawk Ridge offers wine flights, wine slushies, charcuterie, pizza, and more.
Nerds, rejoice: this spot is for you. (Okay, maybe it’s not hardcore nerdy…but it’s a lot of fun.) GameCraft is a vintage arcade/bar with both old and new games, including Skee ball, Guitar Hero, Pac-Man, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, and nearly 20 different pinball machines. Enjoy a gamer-themed cocktail or beer while you play!
Full disclaimer: Joe and Sarah do not golf. But we know family (looking at you, Goldens) might be looking to catch up over a round. Hawk’s Landing is an 18-hole course, par 71. The Art of Yum is the club restaurant, and one of our favorite brunch spots. (We highly recommend the Sushiritto.)
This is not your ordinary town park— it’s a sprawling 1800 acres of land with hiking trails and a lake. Castle Craig sits at the apex of the property at almost 1,000 feet above sea level. It’s a fantastic spot to overlook the city of Meriden and the surrounding areas, especially in the fall! Rumor has it you can even see Long Island Sound on a clear day. We’ve never hiked the trail to the castle, only driven—but the trip is worthwhile either way.
