Kevin started working on 4300 in March 2016. By that point, Megan had already been working on the same unit for almost 3 years and had met a lot of new grad nurses. Kevin picked Megan to be his mentor. Per him, there were no ulterior motives. For the next year, they talked about the highs and lows of being a new grad nurse while also going to movies and out to dinner. After over a year, Megan started to wonder if there could be more between the two of them than just mentorship.

In June of 2017, Megan sat outside Kevin's apartment in between his night shifts and brought him a cake for his birthday. After sharing a slice of said cake, Megan went back to her townhouse and told her roommate Paige, "well if he didn't know that I liked him before, he definitely knows now!" On August 1, 2017, Kevin invited Megan over to his new apartment to grill some burgers for dinner and go to a movie. Kevin under-cooked the burgers and the movie wasn't that great. After the movie, Kevin asked Megan, "was this a date?" Megan, not wanting to risk losing a friend, started rambling and talking in circles. Kevin shut her up by kissing her. Turns out it WAS a date!

In Summer 2025, Kevin was ready to 'Put a Ring on it' and wanted to find the right place to pop the question. Initial summer plans had Kevin and Megan visiting Minnesota and Kevin formulated a plan to propose at Garvin Heights Overlook in Winona. But then that trip didn't pan out. Shortly after, the summer vacation pivoted to a trip to the southwest United States to see the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon! Kevin thought the Grand Canyon would be the PERFECT place to propose! Then, just 2 weeks before the trip, the Dragon Bravo fire closed the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to all visitors. The proposal plans needed to pivot once again. Kevin then decided that he was going to propose at Bryce Canyon at sunset on July 31, 2025. He didn't want to say he waited 8 years to propose; he only waited 7 years and 364 days. After a long day of hiking, Kevin asked Megan if she wanted to go and watch the sunset. Megan said, "nah, not really." Thwarted once again. Kevin asked if she wanted to go and see sunrise the next morning, and Megan agreed! The next morning, on August 1, 2025, Kevin and Megan drove up to Rainbow Point, one of the highest viewpoints in the park. There were no other visitors around. It was quiet and calm. Kevin suggested that we prop up the camera rather than take a selfie. He then started counting down aloud "3....2....1...." as if there was an audible timer on the camera, and dropped to one knee. "Megan Hatfield, we have gone on so many adventures together. I was wondering if you want to go on a new one with me." Megan was crying, Kevin was crying, and Megan said YES!
