Florence Airport Peretola (FLR)

This is the closest airport to Florence, which is about 25 minutes from the city centre by car. It is a smaller airport, mainly serving European flights and connections. If travelling from the US, it is highly unlikely you will have a direct flight to FLR and will have a layover at a key European airport such as London, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Please note, flights into Florence tend to be more expensive because of this.

Florence Peretola to Florence City Centre

Taxis are priced at a fixed rate of €25. You can also get shuttles from the airport via Volainbus or the tram (Line T2) that terminates in the city centre. Almost all taxis take credit cards but it is useful to have a bit of cash (in euros) in case of emergency.

Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA)

This is a larger airport, with more international flights from the UK and US, and it is about 1 hour from Florence by car. Flights into Pisa will most likely be cheaper than Florence and have more flight times.

Pisa Airport to Florence City Centre

Direct trains run frequently to Florence’s Santa Maria Novella (SMN) station (about 1 hour) via Pisa Centrale, or you can use a shuttle service such as Terravision which run directly from Pisa Airport to Florence Montelungo (about 70 minutes).

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ)

This airport serves larger international flights more from European airports and is about 1.5 hours from Florence by car or 30 minutes by high-speed train from Bologna Central Station. Flights into Bologna will most likely be cheaper than into Florence Peretola.

Bologna Airport to Florence City Centre

There is a shuttle bus from the airport to Bologna Centrale station, after which you will need to take the high-speed train to Florence (around 30 mins).

Rome Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

This is one of the largest airports in Italy, serving international flights from the UK and US. As there are more flights a day into Rome, flights tend to be cheaper. It is however further from Florence, and would require either a high speed train or a 3+ hour drive.

Rome Airport to Florence City Centre

You will need to get the train or shuttle to Rome Central Station. From there, there are high-speed trains direct to Florence that take around 1.5 hours.
