Oh, where to begin! I had just wrapped up my junior year at UNC, while Brian had just finished his senior year at ECU (he was taking extra classes that summer while awaiting word on PA school). I went out with a friend (shout out to my awesome bridesmaid, Taylor!) in downtown Greenville one night, and who but should walk in? The very tall, very dreamy Brian 'TooTall' Wallace, ladies and gentlemen. I had the courage of a couple glasses of wine and walked myself right over to him. We chatted a bit about school (he said he would give me a pass that I went to UNC), danced to a few classic 519 tunes, and parted ways. Naturally, I Facebook stalked him later that night, asked to be his 'friend', and then passed the baton to him. He messaged me later that next day, we went on our first date a couple weeks later, and we officially made it 'official' as summer ended and we went back to school. Almost six years later and I'm ever more thankful for walking into that bar that night!
He got me with this one, guys...he got me REAL good. It was my birthday and my dad was in town (not abnormal, so I thought nothing of this). We made plans to visit an arts festival in downtown Concord that morning, and followed it up with a visit to a couple of Brian's favorite local breweries and my favorite antique mall. Our evening plans were to meet Brian's family for an early dinner at Nellie's in downtown Belmont so that we could make it to the drive-in movie by 8:00. If you know Brian, you know how ultimately laid back he is and on this day, he was no different. Cool as a freaking cucumber! I suspected nothing. We were a tad late making it to dinner and Brian's family actually had to push the reservation. I had noticed that Brian was starting to get a tad antsy, but I just thought it was because we were running late. When we arrived at the restaurant, we actually ended up being early for our delayed reservation, so we went next door to the ritzy bar in town to have a drink. Brian swiftly and immediately disappeared, and the bartender told us that they had live music playing upstairs, so we proceeded to head up there. I knew something was up at this point, but I was still way off base (I thought he had orchestrated some sort of surprise party). We walked up the stairs, opened the doors, and there he stood, in a circle of rose petals and candles -- a photographer in the corner, and an acoustic guitarist playing my favorite song, "Landslide" -- I couldn't have dreamt a more perfect proposal. I don't remember a thing he or I said, aside from "Will you marry me?" and "YES!". Best. Day. Ever.
