It was the fall of 2013 in the magical city of Oxford, Ohio. Charlie had finished at Miami and was doing some post-graduate work in psychology, and Hailey was in the prime of her senior year. Hailey’s roommate Sarah was a long-time family friend of Charlie’s, and would occasionally bring him around since most of his friends had left town. Charlie planned to moved back to Columbus that December. On the night before his departure, a farewell gathering was held at Brick Street 90s night. It was on that night (with the help of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and a number of vodka sodas) that we finally acknowledged our mutual attraction. Charlie proceeded to leave the next day in agreement that the timing was poor to jump into any sort of romance. We decided to stay friends, and soon became the kind of “friends” who texted and talked on the phone daily. After Hailey landed permanently in Cincinnati the following September, Charlie decided to make the trek from Columbus for dinner one night. It became apparent after this night that this situation, despite its logistical challenges, was worth exploring and we decided to "give it a try". Fast forward through a few years of long distance dating and an eventual transition to life in Columbus together, Charlie popped the question last July and “giving it a try” has officially proven to be the most rewarding risk we could have ever taken.
