We both were staying at the same beachside resort – using the term, “resort”, extremely loosely. With lunch on our minds, someone organized a little outing to The Lobster Roll. Don’t worry Lori, Monica got the tuna. Whether it was a little strategy or perhaps a bit of serendipity, David sat himself next to Monica. Unlike most, Monica was not offended by David’s ridiculous jokes and general inappropriateness. We must have been sitting at the kids table, because there were crayons on it. A spontaneous game of Hangman broke out with David further testing Monica’s boundaries. She endured. A connection was forming. Being the gentleman that he is, David offered his and his friend’s bike to Monica and her friend Kaitlin, to ride back to the hotel. He forgot to mention that one of the bikes didn’t have any brakes and its seat looked like it had been mauled by a bear. David happily took photos of their joyous ride. Obviously, Monica needed these pics and thereby David needed her digits to send them her way. The rest is history….
Monica reintroduced David to skiing after he had taken nearly 10 years off, after tearing his ACL while skiing in California. Together, they tackled much of what the East Coast had to offer. Monica was yearning to snowboard out West for the first time. So off to the Great White North they went, joined by some of David’s friends from LA (shout out to Irene, Mark and Ilya.) First stop was in Vancouver to enjoy both the greenery and city life, before setting off to Whistler. Saturday morning started with brunch and mimosas, followed by a stroll along the water. We ‘stumbled’ upon a band playing in Olympic Village that had assembled quite a crowd so, we stopped to check them out. They started playing Beyoncé’s, “Single Ladies” and David for some reason, tried pulling Monica up, front and center. She rightfully rebuffed his offer several times, as no one else was dancing. Eventually, she capitulated and joined him for a twirl. The band curiously asked Monica, by name, if she knew of any “single-ladies”. Then they called David up to the microphone, singing “If you like it, then you should put a ring on it”. The band passed the microphone to David where he got one knee and asked for Monica’s hand in marriage. Afterall, when Beyoncé tells you to do something, you don’t question it, you just do it. Monica said yes, at which time they broke out into her #1 favorite, the late, but great Whitney Houston. Perhaps you heard what happened the next day on Monica’s first run at Whistler. We digress. Love is Love.
