Drew and Laura met in 7th grade at a Forest Ridge middle school dance, when Drew asked Lauren Pomeroy (now Hampson, and one of Laura's bridesmaids) to dance. Laura’s sharpest memory from that evening is Drew’s pucca shell necklace, his cargo shorts, and swapping AOL screen names—dwate40 and LiTtLeBiToFlOvE. Laura and Drew spoke a few more times during middle school over AOL instant messanger (AIM) but lost touch until attending Eastside Catholic High School together. They share over 15 years of memories as friends—group dances, car troubles, the majority of high school classes, football games, and apparently a romance attempt by Drew via a Cold Stone "date" with coupons. (This was recent news to Laura.) Junior year, Laura and Drew were paired together in Mrs. Gockel’s health class for the "Life Project", complete with a wedding and a baby. So, this is in fact, Laura and Drew's second wedding. Fast forward over a decade later, and the stars finally aligned at Jake (Drew’s best man) and Mollie's wedding in Roche Harbor. Turns out Mrs. Gockel got it right after all.
Drew proposed on December 27 on what we call "John's Loop", a little hike outside of Laura's parents condo in Sun Valley, ID. Laura hadn't brushed her teeth, showered, or gotten her nails done. It was perfect.
