Emma and Jonah met during a booze cruise generously provided to new students by the Benjamin N. Cardozo school of law in New York City on their first day of orientation in August 2014. Emma has no recollection of this meeting. Jonah thinks about it every day. Emma and Jonah met again over free sandwiches in a classroom in September 2014. They chatted about the year's big epidemic outbreak - ebola - and flossing. Naturally, there was a connection. Immediately afterward, Emma was going to a yoga class and invited Jonah to tag along. Because he's not an idiot, he went. He made it through the 90 minute 104 degree class in good spirits, and they become fast friends. By Christmas 2014, Emma had staked out a toothbrush and clothes drawer in Jonah's apartment. They've been together almost every day since.
Emma, Jonah and Emma's parents, Mike and Sue, fly out to San Francisco to celebrate Emma's sister, and Maid of Honor, Sara's, birthday. Sara, the family wine expert and consumer, drives everyone to Cade Estate Winery in Napa Valley for a wine tour. Near the end of the tour, and the anticipated proposal, a hornet flies into Sue's mouth, which she silently kills under her tongue to avoid ruining the surprise. Emma is stunned by her mother's capacity for pain and is even more surprised when Jonah drops to one knee. Emma sobs so immediately and violently that a long silence ensues before Jonah can pop the question. Eventually, she says yes. Jonah and Emma then depart on an "Engagement-Moon" taking an RV to some of the Country's best national parks.
