Like any couple that meets in New Haven, Amjad and Grace's first date on January 24, 2015 was over slices of pizza. They both knew there was a spark, but unfortunately Amjad had to leave town for 2 weeks the day after their second date. Even though their millennial selves hated talking on the phone, they talked for an hour every day for those two weeks. That was their first hint that this was something special. They spent the rest of Grace's junior and senior years at Yale together. Amjad showed the Chicago native around the gorgeous New England countryside, and Grace took the New Haven native behind the ivy-walls to secret society functions and sorority formals. With Grace's graduation, began a year of long-distance from Chicago to Providence, but they made it through (shout-out to Southwest Airlines). Upon Amjad's graduation from Providence College, he landed a job at Uber Freight and joined Grace in the Windy City. Those early months of living together had their ups and downs (Amjad is still teaching Grace how to load the dishwasher), but the happiness they found from the time together showed them that they had found their person. Grace's move to Ann Arbor for law school meant the beginning of another round of long-distance, but somehow it only brought them closer together. So on March 1st, 2020, during Grace's spring break, Amjad proposed at the same spot in New Haven where they first met, 5 years earlier.
