Many a Sabbath afternoon was spent at this park with my family. Whether warm or cool weather, it was always a place of fun exploring the old cabins, walking the trails or cooling off in the water. It is free to get inside the park.
Located on Chattanooga's North Shore, Coolidge Park is one of my favorite places to visit. It has a renovated carousel, one of the best ice cream shops - Clumpies, the Glass Bridge, and tons of fun shops to pop into. And, of course, there is the park itself, which is beautiful. The Walnut Street Bridge, the walking bridge, is under renovation, so will unfortunately be closed during this time.
The Commons in Collegedale is a great place for walking, running, taking the kids to the playground, going to the farmers market on Sundays, and enjoying the Little Debbie Park. The greenway and the Imagination Station (a playground) are also attached to this free awesome place.
If you're wanting a farmers market experience on a larger scale, the Chattanooga Market is open every Sunday April through December. It has everything from produce, music, photography, ice cream, fresh bread and other bakery goodies, clothes, artwork, hot dogs and hamburgers, jewelry, cotton candy, stationary and accessories, bags & purses, knives, etc., etc., etc. I have loved going when I've had the opportunity.
Signal Mountain is a historic town with stories of Native Americans signaling important messages and being used as a relay station by Union troops during the Civil War. Rainbow Lake is located there along with miles and miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running.
Harrison Bay is along the Chickamauga Lake shoreline. There are trails to walk that are pretty easy and the water is always a favorite for the kiddos. Fishing, birding, and biking are among the options to enjoy at this state park, along with the free entrance.
