Our Story

Seeing as neither of us are the most gifted writers, nor all that comfortable with eloquently dramatizing the chronicles of our story, we attempted to utilize the capabilities of ChatGPT to help spark something much more thought provoking that would better captivate our readers. For some of our more seasoned family and friends who do not know what that is - ChatGPT is a computer generated AI tool that's being used by kids around the world to do their homework (or in this case, help an engaged couple with writers block). We quickly realized that this approach was both ridiculous and disingenuous. That said, the content that came from it was quite entertaining. Rather than sugar coating our past for dramatics, we present to you the computer-generated movie script version followed by a Nico & Addie editor's notes for the reality. Enjoy!

Part One: Go Ags!

Davis, CA - September 2014

ChatGPT's version: Once upon a time in Davis, CA, during their junior year at University, Nico and Addie crossed paths discovering an instant connection and thus altering the course of their lives as they knew it. With one look, he took her breath away as she felt instantly overcome with love. Destiny had other plans, leading them to pursue separate adventures while studying abroad, but their bond as friends remained unwavering. Addie's Version: I saw Nico at a friend's BBQ and called "dibs" on him. After spending some time chatting at the BBQ, I realized this guy might actually like me and my tomboy qualities (we discussed baseball, beer, and how many push ups I can do). Much as one does, I decided to impress him the following night by stealing a bottle of wine from a Davis bar (sorry Bistro33, I paid it back in tips, plus it turns out the bottle I had selected was an empty magnum shown only for display...). The rest of that year was filled with a causal college courtship; picnics at the arboretum, scary movies in Nico's basement, and the grand gesture, invited as a plus one at Nico's fraternity formal in San Francisco. But, with upcoming conflicting abroad programs in polar opposite sides of the world, Nico and I made the decision to break off the romantics and continue a friendship moving into summer of 2015. Nico was a guy I wanted in my life for the long haul, and we finished off our time at UC Davis as good friends headed off to our new professional chapters; him to San Diego and I to San Francisco.

Part Two: Take Two!

December 2018

Chat GPT's Version: When Addie relocated from San Francisco to San Diego, a rekindled friendship with Nico gradually bloomed into a beautiful romance on New Year's Eve of 2018. The surrounding fireworks could not have been a more perfect metaphor for what they felt in their hearts. The rest, as they say, was history. Bound by their shared love for running, surfing, skiing, and biking, they embarked on countless adventures together and haven't looked back. 'Twas truly a match made in heaven. Addie's Version: I moved down to San Diego, realized Nico was the guy for me after all, and made a move. After confessing to Nico how I felt (and running away out of embarrassment), we decided to do the dang thing. And, although it was NOT easy, we've created the best partnership that sits on a foundation of friendship. Our love for activities has led us to completing multiple triathlons, half/full marathons, ski and snowboard trips around the West, and surf trips in Mexico and Hawaii. We've been to dozens of weddings together (if you notice something similar from your wedding at ours, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery 😉) and added Cholula, our dog, into the family during the summer of 2022. We're a beer drinking, homecooked-meal making, active & happy duo and I love this life we have cultivated together. I thank 24 year old Addie all the time for taking a shot of liquid courage and making a move to be with my best friend- it paid off!

Part Three: The Big Q!

April 30, 2023

Chat GPT's Version: After nearly four and a half years filled with love, Nico harnessed enough courage to ask for Addie's hand. The picture perfect moment occurred during the world renowned Big Sur Marathon at the Bixby Bridge. The sky was blue, the ocean was echoing its magnificent swell, and their hearts both erupted in pure elation. He sealed their love in a moment as breathtaking as the surrounding scenery itself. Nico's Version: I had to beg Addie to stay with me and not run ahead during the race. Like, actually beg. She, so kindly, kept making fun of my new running belt which I purchased specifically to hold the ring. I did a trial run once back in SD and the box fell out so needless to say I was pretty paranoid especially with the 40mph gale force winds. To mimic the fabricated ChatGPT version, the proposal followed by the surprise of family and friends at the finish line really was quite spectacular. I didn't plan on the news station being front and center while I got on one knee (that was a fun surprise the next morning), I really was just worried about being able to stand back up after running 13 miles (CRAMPS!). After tears were shed and answers solidified (thanks for saying yes), Addie so thoughtfully exclaimed, "You know, you could have just tied the ring to Lula during a walk on the beach,". Let that be a lesson to any of you looking to pop the question, you apparently don't need to train for a marathon to do so. That said, I wouldn't have changed a thing.
