Summer suits and dresses. Weather in Greece at this time is upto 29C, it will be hot in the day with a slight breeze at night, so keep it light and comfortable to keep the heat at bay. But ladies, a shawl for the evening would be advisable. And...don't forget those shades.
Whether Greek weddings are familiar to you or completely new, it is quite an event to witness, with so much symbolism and tradition woven into it. There are no vows or the famed “I do”. The ceremony is composed of 2 services. 1. The Engagement ceremony, where the rings are exchanged 3 times on the fingers of the bride and groom by the Best Man/ Maid of Honour before placed in their fingers. 2. The Crowning, wherein crowns (Stefana) are placed on their heads as they start a new kingdom wherein they are king and queen of the home and family. The bestman/maid of honour holds the Stefanas above the heads of the couple and exchange them 3 times. Finally, the newlyweds are led around the table by the priest, 3 times, taking their first steps as husband and wife and signifies the promise to preserve their marriage bond until death parts them. Following this and one final blessing, the ceremony is over.
