Question

What to wear?

Answer

Bring warm clothes, and rain gear. The weather this time of year is unpredictable. Highs can be 50-70 degrees, with lows around 30-40 degrees. Be prepared for all conditions (sun, rain, wind). Everyone, please send sunshine vibes! For the wedding, we'll say to dress "Alaska nice." For those of you from out-of-town, think function-over-form; you don't need the snazzy tux or stilettos, but look nice. Dressy-casual is the way to go.

Question

Getting around

Answer

Alaska is big, spread out and not always direct. You're going to need a vehicle. Cell service is pretty accessible across Alaska now, but there are dead-zones in the "middle-of-nowhere" places between A to B. Make sure you fill up your gas tank before leaving Anchorage. *ANC->Talkeetna: 2hrs* ANC->Girdwood: 40min ANC->Seward: 2hrs ANC->Homer: 5hrs ANC->Cooper's Landing: 1.5hrs ANC->Denali: 4hrs ANC->Hatcher Pass: 1 hr

Question

Doing fun stuff, how?

Answer

If you're able to come up early (we hope you can!)- get out and see Alaska! There is a recommended activities page on here, check that or hit us up for some more ideas. Please don't try and pack a ton of stuff into a short window, it won't work with travel times. If you're able to come up early, I'd say just choose one area and focus on that prior to the wedding. Head down to the Kenai and bop around the towns down there. Or head up to Denali National Park area or stay in ANC and do a number of day trips. If you're going out on the trails, pack for weather, and bring bear spray. We can probably help find some, so please ask. While Gloria and I have not had any bad encounters, be prepared. Have the spray accessible while you're out, not in the bottom of the pack. Read this: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=livingwithbears.bearcountry

Question

Where should I stay for the wedding?

Answer

There is plenty of room for all of our guests at Talkeetna Lodge! Tell them you're our guests and you'll get a discount! (Discount code: WGARBER) The wedding will also be here so you won’t have to worry about logistics. Plus, there ain't no party like a Lodge party! Here's a link to the Lodge's website: https://www.alaskacollection.com/lodging/talkeetna-alaskan-lodge/ If you prefer to camp, head over to the "Travel & Lodging" tab for more info.

Question

Covid-19 mitigations?

Answer

Because your health and safety mean the most to us we kindly ask that our guest get tested for Covid-19 the week of our wedding. For our out-of town guests, please plan to take the test at the airport when you arrive in Anchorage. To allow for maximum fun our wedding week and to have a mask-free wedding, we also ask that our guests consider being fully vaccinated before attending our wedding functions. *We will update this section as we get closer to our wedding based on the status of Covid-19*
