As Florence is only a 30 minute train ride away, we have included some some notable Florence recommendations if you are planning to visit at some point during your trip (which we highly recommend!). Rachel studied in Florence in college, and it is one of her favorite cities!

Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence Italy. It overlooks the Piazza della Signoria, which is home to a copy of the David statue. The palace also has its own gallery of sculptures and the tower offers up another great view of the city.

A medieval stone bridge over the Arno, Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence spared from destruction during World War II. It has various shops on it, mainly jewelry and souvenir stores.

Piazzale Michelangelo is a square dedicated to Michelangelo and boasts the best views of Florence. It is the best place to catch a sunset. Up by Piazzale Michelangelo is San Miniato, a church that has a massive cemetery called il Cimitero delle Porte Sante in the back that has the most breathtaking marble statues and tombstones. Even if cemeteries aren't your thing, it is well worth taking a visit.
