Step inside and journey through the story of Otis Redding—his music, his legacy, and his deep roots in Macon. Located on historic Cotton Avenue in the heart of Downtown Macon, the Otis Redding Museum is packed with treasures and memorabilia celebrating the life of the legendary King of Soul.
In 1969 a revolution was launched from the streets of Macon, consisting of guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and a uniquely spirited brotherhood. The revolutionaries of record were the Allman Brothers Band, who, as the founders of what became known as Southern rock, changed the course of popular American music and turned Macon into the recording hot bed of the 1970s.
The Museum at Capricorn interprets the history and impact of Capricorn Records and Capricorn Sound Studios in the context of Macon’s rich music heritage. More than 1,200 square feet of artifacts, murals and interactive digital kiosks featuring music, video and text bring Capricorn’s story to life.
A splendid mansion which can truly be called "The Palace of the South". Completed in 1859, the Johnston-Felton-Hay House, a National Historic Landmark, is considered one of the most outstanding examples of Italian Renaissance Revival architecture in the country.

A visit to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, situated within easy biking distance of downtown Macon, is a revelatory, educational, and culturally enriching experience in an ancient setting. Once home to the largest archeological dig in American history, the prehistoric American Indian site has counted over 12,000 years of human habitation.
Amerson River Park contains 180 acres of pristine forests, meadows, and wetlands surrounded by a river oxbow. The park boasts several high bluffs that provide beautiful views of the river and its banks. Walk, ride, or run the seven miles of trails throughout the park. Enjoy the Ocmulgee River on a kayak, sitting in a canoe, or floating in a tube.
