How We Met

From adventuring party to wedding party.

A long, long time ago, there were a bunch of NEEEERDS. We all lived in different cities and states. Chris met our mutual friend Randy online playing WoW. Ginger met him at a big pop culture convention in Orlando. Over a decade later, the Universal Significant Other Distribution System decided to strike over a game of Dungeons and Dragons, when Randy finally introduced us to each other. As we went around the table, introducing our characters, I made a bold choice. I was working on a film at the time with a nearly entirely French staff, and I had been learning a little French there. I decided to use D&D to practice my (horrible) accent. Since none of these people knew me, I figured it would be safe enough to pretend to be confident with low chance of ridicule. I introduced my character. Not 5 minutes later, Chris's first words to me were, "Wait, are you using a French accent?" I hesitantly said yes, not really having been ready to get called out quite so soon. He said the last thing I expected him to say. "But I was going to be French!" I convinced him to be French with me. Several months later, those characters rode off into some sunset somewhere together, having become unlikely friends. A few years and several more sets of characters later, Chris proposed to me with Randy's sneaky help at our annual in-person D&D meetup in front of the entire party. I didn't even make him roll persuasion. :)

After the Meeting

So close, yet so far.

After Ginger and Chris met through their D&D sessions, they established a friendship first. Starting with post-session messages about what just happened to their characters, they slowly began talking more and more. At a certain point, they realized they were recapping their days to each other. Over a year from our first meeting, we made the leap and officially started our relationship. Living states apart made things challenging, but we just had to come up with more virtual date ideas. Working remote, I took the chance to travel to Atlanta to see Ginger as often as I could. Between that and Ginger's trips to NJ, we got to spend our time together seeing everything our states had to offer. (And even some other states, as we were able to spend time in Florida and Maine with friends and family along the way.) As our times apart grew more intolerable, we began working towards removing the distance. In August of 2025, we packed up Ginger's house in Georgia and drove all the way to Brick in a single day with a U-Haul trailer (and plenty of pets), somehow managing to pull off the move of a century. In what would end up being the craziest couple of weeks, Ginger joined me in NJ. From there I knew we would spend the rest of our lives together. One super secret proposal later, and now you're getting to view this website as we continue our path towards happily ever after.
