FAQs

The Wedding Website of Gina Johnson and Kyle Spells
Question

What is the schedule for the wedding day?

Answer

Please visit the events page for more details. Ceremony at Woods Walk begins at 4:00pm, followed by the reception at A Bar Above starting at 5:00pm. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early for the ceremony and show up any time after 5:00pm to A Bar Above. Kyle and Gina will take photos after the ceremony and should arrive at the reception around 5:45pm. A Bar Above closes at 10pm.

Question

How do I get from the ceremony to the reception?

Answer

The sites are about 10 minutes apart by car (from town up to Mt. CB). We recommend driving your own vehicle, carpooling with your group, or using rideshare/taxis. Note that Uber & Lyft are limited in Crested Butte.

Question

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony is outdoors in the forest (Woods Walk). The reception is indoors at A Bar Above restaurant, but will have an outdoor patio. Please note that for the 4:00pm ceremony the sun will be behind you, but you may choose to bring sun protection for your neck, shoulders or head if you wish.

Question

Can guests take photos during the ceremony?

Answer

We ask that you please put your phones away during the ceremony.

Question

Are children welcome?

Answer

All children who are invited will receive an invitation with their name on it. The reception will take place in a small restaurant with not much open space for running around. Also note there will be an open bar and adults celebrating at the reception. It is up to the parents to decide if they think their child should attend an event like this or not. If they do attend, please be mindful of them. Please make sure they behave themselves and are quiet during the ceremony. If you're unsure and would like more information please feel free to reach out to us!

Question

Is transportation provided?

Answer

No group shuttles are planned between sites or from airports — guests should plan to rent cars or arrange rides. Most guest will be staying at hotels and rentals in Mt. Crested Butte, and almost all places will be walking distance from the reception location.

Question

Can you elaborate a little more on the dress-code for the wedding?

Answer

Our wedding follows a semi-formal dress code with an optional nod to Western style. Think cocktail dresses, midi or maxi dresses, dressy jumpsuits, button-ups, blazers with dress pants, and suits are all options. Western elements such as cowboy boots, bolo ties, or floral prints are optional if you’d like to embrace the mountain vibe, but classic semi-formal looks are perfect too. Your presence means the most! Note that flat sandals are totally fine given the short walk on dirt trail to the ceremony.

Question

What if it rains during the outdoor ceremony?

Answer

Afternoon thunderstorms are possible in July (they often pass quickly). We’ll provide umbrellas if needed, but most days stay beautiful!

Question

What is the weather usually like in Crested Butte in July?

Answer

Expect beautiful summer weather: average highs around 71–76°F, lows in the mid-40s°F, with sunny days but possible afternoon showers or thunderstorms (common in the mountains). The elevation (~8,900–9,300 ft) keeps it cooler than lower areas. Note that 75°F can feel pretty warm at this elevation.

Question

What should guests know about the high altitude?

Answer

Crested Butte sits at about 8,900 ft elevation. Some people experience mild altitude symptoms (headache, fatigue, shortness of breath). Drink plenty of water and avoid overexertion the first day.

Question

Any specific items for high altitude and sun exposure?

Answer

At ~8,900–9,000 ft elevation, the sun is intense (UV rays stronger), air is dry, and hydration is key. Recommend packing: high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, a wide-brimmed hat, polarized sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle (drink extra water starting before arrival to help adjust). Consider altitude aids like electrolyte packets if prone to headaches or fatigue.

Question

Should guests bring anything for outdoor activities before/after the wedding?

Answer

Please refer to the “Things To Do” page for more info on activities around Crested Butte. If planning light outdoor adventures: comfortable walking/hiking shoes with good traction, bug spray, a small daypack for water/snacks, and a swimsuit. We always like to bring something to cover from the sun like a light long sleeve shirt and hat. There are lots of swimming opportunities in the beautiful mountain lakes and streams, and although cold, feels amazing in the summer! A rain jacket, towel, and a camp chair are also good things to bring. It gets cold in the evenings so bring a jacket.

Question

Any recommendations for rental cars?

Answer

Colorado features tons of dirt backroads and off-roading opportunities. If you are planning to explore areas like this, we recommend renting at least an SUV or a vehicle with some clearance. If you are feeling very adventurous, there are high-clearance Jeep rentals in Denver.
