We wish we could say it was love at first sight, but that’s far from the truth. We went to high school together and were the only two people in our high school that had cleft lip and palate so naturally, people thought that automatically meant we should go out. Neither of us were interested (because what an awkward reason to date someone), so we went on with our separate lives, not knowing how parallel they would run the next few years. Zac dated one of the exchange students that lived with Gillian’s family and he even went camping with her family at one point. We also later came to the realization that Zac had attended Gillian’s Mom’s 50th birthday party AND sat at Gillian’s table (we have photo proof), even though neither of us had any memory of this. Over the years, we followed each other on social media but never talked. That all changed in October of 2021 when Zac slid into Gillian’s DMs on instagram to catch up. Zac claims Gillian was hardcore flirting with him but Gillian was just being friendly. Zac tried to ask Gillian out for drinks but Gillian ghosted him which led him to text her, since he still had her number from the girl who tried to set us up in high school (lol). Gillian told him that she had been seeing someone else so a date wouldn’t be the best idea. A few weeks later, Gillian reached back out to Zac to see if he’d still be up for a date but he told her he was seeing someone else. A few weeks after that, Zac reached back out to Gillian to tell her his schedule had “freed up” and we finally made plans for our first date. Our first date was of course a hike and we realized how much we have in common. We discovered we both have a love for camping and hiking and are both in law enforcement. We realized that having the same birth defect was just an extra bonus, not the main reason we ended up together. Since then, we have had countless adventures together including many camping trips, hikes and vacations! On April 16, 2024, Zac proposed at one of our favorite campsites in Prescott, AZ. It was just the two of us (and the doggies of course), which made it all that more special. We are so excited to celebrate our love with our favorite people on September 19th, 2025! Here’s to starting a new chapter of our story!
