Genevieve & Gurmehar

FAQs

Please read below to get answers to common questions that we anticipate guests asking. Don't see an answer to your question? Please ask!
Question

Aren’t you already married?

Answer

Yes! To be correct, Gurmehar and Genevieve have already been married TWICE. Because of the tedious and agonizing process that is the U.S. immigration system, Gurmehar and Genevieve decided to tie the knot legally about 5 years ago so that Gurmehar could start the process to obtaining his green card. Like most naive couples in 2019, they assumed that they would just host a larger function that they actually envisioned just a year or two later. Life moves pretty fast. Between COVID, completing graduate school, and buying a house, the couple are finally tying the knot on their terms.

Question

Thank you for the invitation! I would love to come, but I don’t even know where to start!

Answer

We’re so glad that you’re interested in being a part of our big day! We know that this invitation can invoke more stress than the typical wedding. If you are interested in coming to India to celebrate our big day, please use our guide in the “travel” section to help you navigate this exciting wedding adventure.

Question

But, what do I wear?

Answer

As you've probably guessed, attire at an Indian wedding is a bit different than a traditional Western wedding. Please refer to the guide below about what different options guests can pick from for attire. Feel free to default to cocktail attire, but when else will you get the chance to wear this kind of attire? Probably never. Do be mindful to steer away from outfits that are prodominantly red and pink. Those colors are saved for the bride and groom! https://www.brides.com/what-to-wear-to-an-indian-wedding-5076237

Question

I only speak English. How hard will communication be for me in India?

Answer

Navigating language in any new country can be a challenge! Fortunately, English is the official language of Chandigarh, India. You will also hear native speakers use Punjabi, Hindi, and potentially a mix of all three languages. Many signs, products, and text in Chandigarh will be written in English. To help navigate, Genevieve has found the Google app very helpful. The app allows you to translate verbal phrases, images, and any text that you may encounter.

Question

Are you going to hate me if I am not able to come to India to celebrate your wedding?

Answer

No, of course not! We understand that this is a big ask for most guests to travel across the world for a wedding. We greatly appreciate any efforts made to try to come celebrate with us on our big day. If you are hesitant or want to trouble shoot how to make it work, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Gurmehar and Genevieve. They would love to help!

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

Because we know how grand of an ask it is for guests to travel half-way across the world for a wedding, we are not prioritizing a registry at this time.
